DENMARK
summary
Gay marriages were first legalised in Denmark on May 26, 1989. Gays suffered from discrimination due to religious and conservative beliefs before the bill was passed. There were attempts in 1984 previously to legalize same-sex unions but were unsuccessful. Moreover, AIDs played a huge role in bringing gay relationships into the sociert. However, the legislation prohibits homosexuals from adopting children and refer their relationships as "registered partnerships" instead of marriages. Till today, gays are still discriminated upon. Only a mere seven countries permit same sex marriages and fifteen more authorize same sex civil unions. It remains a problem as gays are still not recognized.

Gay rights are still a global and controversial issue amongst many countries including conservative ones such as Singapore. There was an attempted bill in 2007 regarding gay rights but was rejected by the government. Even today, we still see cases such as AWARE on the news.
